How I tried to share and talk but was called a 'chatter box'
I took voluntary retirement about nine months before my actual date of retirement because I was suffering from Osteo-arthritis and Osteo-phytes and could not walk beyond a street length. After retirement, I became a recluse. I remained confined to my house and went only to fetch a packet of cigarettes. I used all my time reading and writing on the net.

On using lines as compositional elements in photography
Ordinarily, we do not think of lines as a worthy subject to photograph. But for a serious photographer, lines as a subject as well as a compositional element can provide great images.

Will emails end the romance of letters?
Despite the ease of e-mails, I still retain my love for the written word, and the occasional letter. That is why, no matter how technologically advanced I might get, I will retain my old steel letter opener.

As a student I was a well-wisher of my teachers
My teachers made me a life-time earner and to enjoy a retired life. They were our well wishers and expected the best results from us. What's the best part of school life? Some would vouch for the great education, the great learning experience, the knowledge sharing and other such scholarly pursuits. But many would admit that the best of school life takes you down on a trip down memory lane.

Legacy of Urdu poet Faiz Ahmed Faiz: His conviction and unconventional thinking
In January, 1969, I had joined the government as an Assistant in the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting and Mr. N. Krishnan, a South Indian was my Section Officer. I was only 23 years old and had great passion for poetry, and it was while in this job that I came to know more about Faiz Ahmed Faiz, the influential Left-wing revolutionary Urdu poet from Pakistan.

Womanizer, but a brave person
After learning about the death of my cousin who had retired from the Army as a Major, I was not clear in my mind whether I should go to Chandigarh to offer condolences to his family or not. After all, why should I go? He had made love to so many girls, but married none of them. He must have hurt their feelings, I thought.

Live life aggressively
If you want to be happy, live life aggressively as it would release your pent up feelings making your life free and pleasant. Remember that our primitive forefathers were not such a docile lot and were full of aggression as they had to fight wild animals and live in caves. So, man is aggressive by nature.

Pride in living life dangerously
Our forefathers were hunters and they went on hunting by themselves to provide food for their families. They faced all the dangers that go with hunting and stood alone. So man is a hunter by nature and needs the excitement of hunting to enliven his life.

Never ask for food when somebody is dying
I was five-years-old and was playing with children including girls when my grandfather called me and told me not to play with girls. He asked me to go inside the house, as my grandmother was seriously ill and attend to her.

Being sex-starved, insomniac and the role of ego in sex
I can only offer to explain a possible inter-connection through experience and my analysis of history. When I was sixteen years old there was a period that I was not able to go to sleep. My elder cousin advised me to find a girl and see if the comfort of a physical relationship could induce deep slumber.

When people prefer sleep over dreaming who will dream and who will interpret the dream?
Last month I was discussing with a publisher about a book on dreams. In reply, he showed me a quotation, 'There are two kinds of dreams. There are dreams that we have while asleep and dreams that we have while we are awake. What is the connection between the two types?

God does not accept bribes nor does he kill anybody before his time
I was going to the shop to buy a packet of cigarettes for myself when I was greeted by a Sikh lady sitting in a chair in her house's verandah. I asked her how the world went with her. She was sad and morose. I was saddened by what she told me.

Are you committed to a cause?
Do you go to bed early at night after washing your teeth and wake up in the morning at 5am? Do you then ease yourself so that your bowels are clear? After that do you take bath and wash your teeth? Then do you go to park which is full of greenery and walk there for 4 to 5 km rather briskly? Do you then do yoga or some other exercises?

Who is successful?
What is success? Who is successful? Well, it is hard to define because the term 'success' means different thing to different people. A person may consider himself successful if he becomes an IAS officer while another may consider himself successful if he becomes an industrialist.

Why I am against legalisation of homosexuality
I cannot support legalising homosexual activity because: (i) it is homosexuality that is responsible for the spread of AIDS/HIV through those homosexuals who are also bi-sexuals, (ii) it is an unnatural act for human beings and I have not found any animal indulging in this act, (iii) it is a psychiatrical disease involving fixation of an adult to the age of ten to fourteen when all growing children have homosexual tendencies and (iv) it would endanger the marital relationships between an adult man and an adult woman which is a natural act for all the human being and animals and is also responsible for procreation.
